Google Gives Business Owners A Fighting Chance
Google wants to provide the best results and search experience for users. If they get complacent, they risk losing their vise grip on their search engine market share, which stands at 92%. Empowering users can sometimes come at the expense of business owners and the brand the business is trying to continually build.
One long standing area of frustration for business owners is Google Reviews. The go-to move when a customer feels burnt or has a less than ideal experience is heading to the reviews for the respective business and lambasting them with a one-star rating and multiple exclamation points. Unfortunately, many business owners don’t even know how to reply and if they do, they decide to go on the offensive and hit the user back with their own view on how things transpired. We have all been in the awkward situation of being in the room when two other people are passionately arguing, that’s how potential future customers will feel if they come across the review and response while researching the business. We always recommend dialing it down, responding professionally while offering solutions and apologies to the user, even when it is not warranted.
Recently Google gave business owners a new tool to help combat reviews that violate their policy. This tool is called the “Google My Business Review Removal Request Status Tool”. We will walk you step-by-step on how to escalate reviews and check their status:
Step 1 – Login to the Google Account that has access to your Google My Business listing. This should obviously be the listing that has the review you would like to report.
Step 2 - After you login, CLICK HERE to manage you reviews. It may be a good idea to bookmark this link for future use. From this link you will be able to report a new review for takedown or check the status of a review previously reported.
Step 3 – Select your business. Check the “Report a new review for takedown” and hit “Continue”. The next screen will give you a list of your reviews to choose from.
Pretty cool right? Keep in mind it will take some time for Google My Business Support to review you request and there is no guarantee they will take the listing down. Our hope is you don’t have any reviews you need to report, but if you do, you now have the knowledge and tools needed to give you a fighting chance.
