Google Rolls Out June 2021 Core Update
Each year, Google releases several broad core algorithm updates designed to improve their search results. On June 2nd, they rolled out a new "broad core update" called the June 2021 Core Update. Based on our research, it took longer to roll out and is more spread out than past updates. Google is still adjusting this algorithm change and is expected to release a page experience update in mid-June and another core update in July. Like with any Google core release, your rankings may fluctuate. Because this is a two-part core update, it's possible to see changes in June that reverse in July.
Google has reiterated there is no “fix” for their core updates. However, they're advice for recovering from a core update remains the same: focus on high-quality content and E-A-T (Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness). They also shared the following advice on Twitter after last year’s broad core algorithm update:
“Each day, Google usually releases one or more changes designed to improve our results. Some are focused around specific improvements. Some are broad changes. Last week, we released a broad core algorithm update. We do these routinely several times per year. As with any update, some sites may note drops or gains. There’s nothing wrong with pages that may now perform less well. Instead, it’s that changes to our systems are benefiting pages that were previously under-rewarded. There’s no “fix” for pages that may perform less well other than to remain focused on building great content. Over time, it may be that your content may rise relative to other pages.”
Our SEO specialists continuously analyze web analytics and search console performance reports to determine how sites are impacted from the algorithm update. To see more advice from Google around Google updates, see their Twitter thread.
